Sub-themes for 2022 ACEN Conference

 

1. Enhancing employability through WIL

Employability learning is integral in facilitating students’ transition from learner towards early career professional. This sub-theme calls for papers exploring but not limited to:

  • the relationship between WIL and employability outcomes
  • employability skill development
  • future work skills students will require and skills of the future
  • innovative approaches to embedding and scaffolding employability
  • evidencing employability

2. Innovative, scalable and sustainable WIL

This theme explores innovative WIL models, with a focus on the enablers and challenges associated with models that are scalable but also sustainable. This sub-theme calls for papers exploring but not limited to:

  • What contributes to successful innovations in WIL?
  • Emerging research methodologies for WIL
  • What will WIL look like beyond 2020?

3. Delivering Quality WIL

The requirements of WIL across the disciplines vary.  This sub theme calls for papers exploring but not limited to:

  • Defining WIL quality – students, industry and community partners and tertiary sector institutions
  • Quality WIL frameworks
  • Evaluation of WIL processes and outcomes
  • Managing risk

4. Globalising WIL

This theme explores the delivery of WIL across national borders. This sub-theme calls for papers exploring but not limited to:

  • Managing risk in a global WIL world
  • Immigration compliance – how do we support students in their WIL journey abroad?
  • Innovative models for supporting WIL overseas – from third-party internship providers to academic-led global mobility, and the rise of volunteer tourism

5. WIL Leadership: shaping the future

WIL champions and influencers are key to building coherent WIL strategies. This sub theme calls for papers exploring but not limited to:

  • The key to successful WIL management across an institution
  • Capacity building and identifying champions across the University
  • Closing the gap between academia and industry/community
  • Leadership models for WIL

6. Collaborative stakeholder engagement

This theme explores stakeholder engagement for improved outcomes. This sub-theme calls for papers exploring but not limited to:

  • Cross-disciplinary WIL projects – Evidencing outcomes when students work in multidisciplinary teams
  • One Employer, many Universities – collaborations that benefit everyone

7. Indigenous engagement: Building capacity through WIL

This theme explores building the capacity of Indigenous students through WIL. This sub-theme calls for papers exploring but not limited to:

  • Indigenous voices in industry
  • Creating opportunities that inspire engagement

8. Diversity in WIL – Inclusive WIL Practices

This theme explores the activities for supporting individual learners and the enablers for designing diverse learning communities for improved learning outcomes. This sub-theme calls for papers exploring but not limited to:

  • Funding and resourcing models that support inclusive WIL
  • Supporting diverse learners during WIL activities
  • Preparation models that ease transition into WIL activities

9. Service Learning and Community Engagement

This theme explores the activities for supporting individual learners and the enablers for designing diverse learning communities for improved learning outcomes. This sub-theme calls for papers exploring but not limited to:

  • Designing curriculum for transformation of participants.
  • Impact of service learning and community engagement activities on students personal and professional growth.
  • Contributions of service learning and community engagement to improving societal outcomes
  • Unique aspects of service learning and community engagement in the range of WIL experiences
